Because Canon law is part of secular law there had to be special provision to ensure that the two are not in legal conflict with each other.
All the church needs to do is to discuss this matter through its customary processes and get General Synod approval for a change in Canon Law.
This can then be presented to Parliament and I have no doubt that Parliament would approve it.

Probably just another 50 years, then.Erika Bakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01812376497361267014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-146780325302102876.post-24249202506900135202012-12-16T13:54:16.934+00:002012-12-16T13:54:16.934+00:00The obvious detriment women clergy, homosexuality,...The obvious detriment women clergy, homosexuality, and letting the top Antichrist in the Abbey is blatantly evident.Mr. Mcgranorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12851136550476241757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-146780325302102876.post-56036706489183933752012-12-12T12:56:37.846+00:002012-12-12T12:56:37.846+00:00What seems absurd to me is that this seems to be a...What seems absurd to me is that this seems to be a response to the objection from evangelicals that churches could be sued for refusing to marry same-sex couples. This objection was raised by a representative of the Evangelical Alliance on an interview with Radio 5 Live. However since this new legislation only affects the Churches of England and Wales, that doesn't provide similar protection for, for example, a Baptist church who do not wish to perform those ceremonies, who, presumably will continue to have worries about whether they will be sued or not (which seems excessive paranoia anyway). So the idea seems half-baked anyway.
Iainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04685228974985888660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-146780325302102876.post-12671743764862323082012-12-11T19:36:43.864+00:002012-12-11T19:36:43.864+00:00Hi Tess, That question was raised by one of the We...Hi Tess, That question was raised by one of the Welsh MPs after the statement, but Maria Miller repeated that it would be illegal for the Church in Wales to carry out same-sex weddings, and that it would require primary legislation to change this.

It is not clear at this time why this should be as they are not the established church but that was the announcement.Benny Hazlehursthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11106740133903626260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-146780325302102876.post-29330583803649116412012-12-11T17:39:41.559+00:002012-12-11T17:39:41.559+00:00Is the Church in Wales not allowed to opt-in, seei...Is the Church in Wales not allowed to opt-in, seeing as how they are a disestablished church?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18395534300762460678noreply@blogger.com
