All these claims of ‘persecution’ by the likes of the Christian Legal Centre and its allies. Odd that much of this ‘persecution’ seems to revolve around being denied the right to discriminate against homosexuals in public services – and lesser bias to be allowed to wear trinkets. These Bible believing Christians seem to cherry pick their righteousness: e.g. it is odd how they seem very sure of the implications of Lev 18:22, but seem less keen to uphold Jesus’ commandment concerning what to do when sued... (Matthew 5:40)! It is an insult to those who really ARE persecuted for their faith, to listen to whinging and whining of a certain flavour of gay-bating Christians...

Odd too, that these Christians, so EAGER to uphold the words of Scripture when it comes to a narrow interpretation of verses that could (or could not) homosexuality seem strangely either ignorant, or not willing, to apply the same level of effort and concern when it comes to Jesus’ teaching ON persecution!

We certain DON’T see the Christian Legal Centre or the Christian Institute or Anglicanmainstream or Life Site news and whatever other organ of ‘Christian’ virtue, demanding Christians should bear persecution, because that is what Jesus commanded! Tho’ the message from these conservative Christian voices has an odd similarity to reactionary conservative politics – a ‘’me, me, me’ self-interest rhetoric thinly disguised as concern about a very limited repertoire of moral issues (and usually personally cheap issues – if you don’t happen to be gay or a woman having to make a decision about abortion – and we can safely say that is the vast majority of the bums on pews in your average conservative church). A bit more turning the other cheek, foot washing and emphasis on being the servant of all, instead of an ill-disguised desire to be society’s master under the guise of mitigated virtue and playing on ancient prejudices...

Wish I’d known about it – I’m across the road (Chancery Lane) at KCL’s Maughan Library a good deal of the time at present... I’d have loved to ask some of these Bible Believing Christians why they cherry pick their causes and righteous issues.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-146780325302102876.post-6536209063479908252013-12-03T15:20:42.649+00:002013-12-03T15:20:42.649+00:00Great account. I find myself unwittingly moving from revulsion at the Christian Concern brigade towards worrying about the state of their souls, what with the constant judging and hatred, bearing false witness and generally bringing disrepute on the holiness and love of Christ's church. The Bible couldn't be clearer and there could be no New Testament or Gospels without the Old. See Leviticus Ch 18: 'You shall not lie with a male as with a woman: it is an abomination'.
Jesus preached the need for repentance and to receive forgiveness. Where do you stand on ex-gays who have left the gay lifestyle and choose celibacy? So "appalling" was quite mild really. ;) Great news about Synod, though. :)Simon Barrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05366440538616508935noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-146780325302102876.post-16735194959016100802013-11-14T21:28:52.789+00:002013-11-14T21:28:52.789+00:00Thanks Benny for being there for so many.
